Sofía Grünwald
Mallorca-based ceramic artist, Sofía Grünwald, was born and raised in Uruguay. From her early years, Sofía demonstrated an innate passion for art and design, experimenting with various techniques and materials. She has always enjoyed being in contact with clay, creating gifts for her family or furniture and decoration for her dolls’ house. Furthermore, ceramic is a profound connection to the resilient, loving women in her lineage, drawing inspiration from her mother and paternal grandmother. Their influence echoes in her creations, infusing each piece with a rich tapestry of familial wisdom and power.
She studied a bachelor in industrial design in Uruguay’s University of the Republic, where the academic foray into ceramics deepened her fascination. In 2017, a trip to Cambodia sealed her fate with ceramics when an impromptu pottery wheel workshop led by deaf teenage artisans left an indelible mark on her artistic soul.
The year 2022 marked the commencement of a pottery course, and internship with artist Cecilia Delgado, in Lyon, France, solidifying the artist’s love for this timeless art. In 2023, she then launched Sabia and started teaching ceramics to beginners in a local arts academy in Palma de Mallorca.
Sofía has also lived in Germany and France before relocating to Spain, and each location has become a chapter shaping Sofía's ever-evolving artistic identity. Her journey is a testament to resilience and an enduring love for life.
